Custom sound sets for the Akai® MPC-3000
Our Mindstock® MPC3K™ series sound sets may be ordered securely online on CD, flash media, or download (or e-mail depending on file size); Iomega ZIP 250 Disk by special order is also available. These professionally programmed sample sets provide inspirational tools for making music, and bring new life to your MPC!
We've been "MPC-heads" since the launch of the original Linn-9000, the progenitor of the MPC-60, MPC-60II and MPC-3000 models invented by Roger Linn. Often mis-labeled as beat boxes used exclusively by '90s hip-hop artists, the MPC series has been (and is) used by many contemporary artists like Alicia Keys (a keyboard player), as well as rock and electronica producers and musicians.
The original three MPC3K sounds sets produced in 1998 have been pulled from our archives and re-issued for 2009. Evven today in the era of gigantic ROMpler instruments, these kits provide a wealth of custom sounds and programs at an affordable price fully programmed and customized for the MPC-3000. With a very few exceptions, all of our sounds are 44Khz stereo or mono so they will import into the MPC-2000 just fine. No two sounds are named the same, and no sounds are duplicated in ANY set so you can build up a library of our sound sets on a SCSI device connected to your MPC (or on your computer).
All sound sets include programs (.PGM) which are pre-configured for dynamics, panning, volume and tunings. These are not "raw" sounds or samples you have to muck with to sound right. Just load and go! All sound sets include several demo sequences to give you a quick "show off" of the possibilities of the sound set.

Mindstock MPC3k 8081 Sample Set:
One of the most popular "sounds" in electronic percussion is the famous sound of the Roland TR-808. Many synth and percussion players pay top dollar for used vintage models of the 808 and there are various products on the market which attempt to emulate the sound through software. Now you can get this classic sound for your MPC, and not simply a "reproduction" either.
These samples are taken from a REAL Roland TR-808 borrowed from a friend and painstakingly sampled in various settings to get a wide range of sounds and takes. After selecting some of my favorites of the various takes, this sound set was programmed to offer a superb authentic feel of the classic 808 on the MPC. We even threw in a couple of exclusive vocal samples to give you a killer funky demo with the included sequences.
We also added two special sounds, the base-flam (always loved that flam sound on the old analog Korg beat boxes!), as well as a clap-echo sound with reverb which was one of the most popular percussion sounds used in the 80s.
As with all of our sound sets, we program three of the four MPC3000 banks (A, B and C) with sounds and alternate tuning/pan/etc. to give you a wide range of usable settings "out of the box." We always leave the D bank free for you to set up a quick bank of your own without affecting our programs.
This sound set also now includes the previously available 9009 sound set (based on Roland 909 drumbox). Total file size is approximately 2MB. Pricing for this set is only $9.95 (e-mail/download), or $14.95 for CDR plus $3.50 shipping/tax (in US). Item #M3K-01-8081.
Mindstock MPC3k FM3K Sample Set:
Generally, many people don't think of the classic Yamaha DX/TX sound for percussion and drums. Typically, the DX family was better known for its tink/clink sounds and chopping bass lines. And it really cut against the mainstream analog synths of the time (i.e., SCI Prophet and Roland Jupiter).
Of course, those of us who had a DX when they first came out did find ways to crank some of the weirdest percussion, noise and pseudo-drumkits from the FM family. The original DX-7 was a 2-op FM synth (two operator, similar to 2 oscillator in an analog synth). Later on the 4-op versions were released and offered a wider variety of sounds.
This very unique set of drum sounds for the MPC3000 come from building and then sampling some really unusual but very techo/industrial drum sounds. Most of these sounds were sampled direct from the outputs of the synth with no effects. Alternate takes were sampled "live" in our 1998 project studio through a Mackie SR32-4 with some plate reverb added before driving a set of Yamaha near-field monitors and recorded with a Shure Beta SM58 microphone.
So, what sounds so good about this set? A surprising tympani drum, a great tubular bell sound (1MB stereo!), and a slew of wacked industrial sounds (all those bag of nails, pipe, hammer, and shot type sounds, but VERY hot in a techo mix!). The kick sounds are really hot, and you will definitely be surprised by the quality of these sounds. Sound names that start in FMA are ambient samples. If you want to sound totally different from the rest of "the herd" or want to make one or more of your next tracks sound completely different from your other tracks, then get this set.
This sound set includes 23 original sound (.SND) samples you won't find anyplace else, and is approximately 4MB in size. Pricing for this set is only $18.95 on CDR plus $3.50 shipping/tax (in US). Item #M3K-02-FM3K.
Mindstock EUROHAX™ Sample Set:
Our most popular MPC sound set includes numerous custom sounds which will immediately bring to mind classic albums of the '80s by Depeche Mode, Erasure, and the numerous bands that combined analog synths with lo-fi beat boxes, side-by-side with traditional live instruments. Some may think of that sound as dated, where we consider it "classic." In fact, as we near the end of the first decade of the 21st century, it's not surprising that this kind of sound is coming back.
This sound set is approximately 2MB in size. Pricing for this set is only $12.95 on CDR plus $3.50 shipping/tax (in US). Item #M3K-03-EURO.
